Ways You Can Give Back As A Host

Looking back on a book that I read years ago, there were many lessons to be learned, but there was one that has always stuck with me. In The Greatest Salesman in The World by Og Mandino, he says that you should give away/donate 50% of your profit and if you get in that habit then riches and success will come to you.

Now this may seem like a big jump and commitment. Donating is a great way to not only do good with your profits but to get more involved in your community. In this video, we are going to talk about giving back as a host and how to run a hosting business with purpose.

Why Should You Donate?

First off, be sure to talk to your accountant and reach into your generous soul to decide whether or not you want to participate. I do believe if you are achieving any amount of success and have extra money to spare, you should consider helping out the people and neighborhood around you. It will also translate into a welcoming sense in the community which is a wonderful feeling.

Easy Ways To Give Back As An Airbnb Host

There are many ways to give back to your community, especially if you are an Airbnb host. Here are some opportunities to do good in your own neighborhood and donate to other organizations to share your success.

You Can Donate Directly On The Airbnb Website

Keep it simple – the platform is there to help you. Airbnb.org helps people who are stranded due to major storms and natural disasters to relocate and get started on rebuilding their life. So how can I help with this?

  • Host a stay – offer your home up as a place to stay for people in need
  • Donate to the organization – give back directly on the site to help fund the project. This can be once, recurring or even gives you the option to break off a portion of each stay

This is a great way to give back with each booking. Airbnb makes it simple for hosts to donate to a bigger cause at the click of a button.

Donate Soft Goods

There is a standard of what your sheets and towels need to be for guests. They can’t have stains or small rips, even if this means the linens are not ruined. If you have lightly worn linens but they aren’t quite good enough for guests, donate them to a local thrift store. There’s no need to throw away slightly damaged goods.

Some organizations help residents that relocated to an area who are well below the poverty line or are just getting started. Donating directly to a local relief program is another great option.

Pick A Charity

Choose something close to your heart – what do you care about? Find a charity that you would like to give back to and donate a portion of each of your bookings. I donate $1 for every reservation we get to One Tree Planted because environmental issues are really important to me. It’s not a ton of money, but it is about being in the habit of giving and supporting other communities and causes.

Remember, donating to non-profit organizations helps to offset your income taxes. Not only is it great to help the communities around you, but it also helps you at the end of the year. It’s a win-win situation!

In Conclusion

“The story sells the promise that becoming the greatest salesperson means developing a better, stronger version of yourself through good habits, discipline, perseverance, and self-control” Og Mandino.

If we take this message and run with it, we are all going to have more successful, sustainable, and fun Airbnb businesses!
